Mordancage: The process of etching and bleaching of a photograph.
The Ruminate View
Seeing a sunrise, noticing the texture of trees when hiking, or watching spring renew the world with color and life, I stop and stare at nature’s ephemeral qualities. Words and images do not fully capture the vastness of nature’s beauty, but as a photographer, I try to do that exact thing. By using black and white photography to capture one of these moments, it serves as a basis for what I am reflecting on. Although I begin by making a representational image to fully capture the beauty of nature, I alter the photograph in search of moments when the representation breaks down and when the distortion encourages mystery and exploration. The inspiring part of this process is that each photo turns into its own moment that cannot be repeated. Each photo represents a moment in nature that I vaguely remember, but serves as a response to the beauty that I find to be so captivating. They begin to reveal the change in nature and the mystery it reveals to us in that change as we explore.
